Taperly launches on Product Hunt on October 3Take a look

Taperly vs TrainingPeaks

One holds your training. The other holds the week your training was for.

These are not competing apps, and the honest answer to the comparison is that most first-time triathletes end up using both. TrainingPeaks is where a training plan lives: the workouts, the sessions you tick off, the file your coach looks at. Taperly starts where that ends. It is the week before the race, the bags on the floor the night before, and the details you go looking for at six in the morning when the transition area opens.

Taperly plan with the prep phases and what is left

Following a training plan

Taperly

Not covered, on purpose. Your plan stays where it already is.

TrainingPeaks

This is what it is built for.

Knowing what to do in race week

Taperly

Tasks by day, in the order the week takes them, with what is done and what is left.

TrainingPeaks

A taper is in the plan as sessions, not as a to-do list for the week.

Packing the bags

Taperly

A list per bag, in the colours the race calls them, built from what athletes actually forgot.

TrainingPeaks

Not what a training log is for.

Race morning details

Taperly

Start time, where to be, the course, and the forecast for the venue, offline.

TrainingPeaks

Lives in the athlete guide and on the race website.

Working with a coach

Taperly

No coach view. Taperly is for the athlete on their own.

TrainingPeaks

The coach and athlete relationship is the product.

Why the two rarely overlap

A training app answers one question well: what session is next, and did you do it. That question runs for months and then stops being the question about four days out, when the training is already banked and the problem changes shape.

The week before a race is not a training problem. It is an admin problem with a deadline you cannot move: what needs doing and when, what goes in which bag, and the details you look up on race morning. None of that belongs in a workout log, which is why almost every athlete keeps it somewhere else, usually a notes app and a screenshot of the athlete guide.

What we heard from first-timers

The question in this comparison is the most asked question on our own site, word for word: I already use TrainingPeaks, is this another one of those. It is asked by people who do not want a second subscription and do not want to move their plan.

They do not have to. Taperly does not import a plan, does not replace one, and does not ask you to log a session. It has no opinion about your training at all.

When the other one is the right choice

If what you are actually looking for is a training plan, structured workouts, or a way for a coach to see your sessions, TrainingPeaks is the right tool and Taperly is not an alternative to it. We do not build any of that and are not planning to.

Try it without downloading anything

Three of these run in the browser with no account, and the fourth is the race catalogue the app is built on.
