IRONMAN 70.3 Kraichgau athlete guide: what to check
The athlete guide is the organiser's own document for the race, published on the organiser's own race page. It is the source of truth, and these are the parts that change your plan and move from year to year.
Check-in times
When athlete check-in opens and closes, and what ID to bring. Race number and timing chip are handed out there.
Bag rules
Which bags there are (morning clothes, bike gear, run gear), when each is handed in, whether the bike is racked the day before, and when transition closes.
Wetsuit rule
The water temperature limits for wetsuits. Officials make the call on the day from a measured temperature, not from the forecast.
Course
Maps, laps and elevation for the swim, bike and run, plus the drafting and mount line rules.
Cut-offs
The time limit for each leg. They differ between races and between a Half and a Full, so read the ones for this Half.
IRONMAN 70.3 Kraichgau race week guide
Race week in three parts, the same three the Taperly app uses. Times and deadlines come from the athlete guide.
The 7 days before

Once you arrive
At the race
A long day of small errands in a town you do not know, and then an early night. Do them in an order you decided in advance.
Must do: Athlete check-in, Timing chip somewhere you cannot leave without it.
Race morning
Race day
If the week went well, this is only a list of things to pick up and put down. It ends when the horn goes, because from there nobody is holding a phone.
Must do: Timing chip on, Race number, Bike on your own rack number.
What to carry for each leg of a Half, taken from the packing list below.

Sorted by the bag each thing goes in. Bag systems vary by event, so check your athlete guide.

Bike gear bag (T1)
0 of 24 done
Blue bag. Everything between the water and the bike course. At most races the bike is checked in the day before, which splits this bag in three: what goes ON THE BIKE has to be there before the bag is, what you CARRY IN goes with you on the morning because it cannot sit out overnight, and the rest is the bag itself. Each line says which.
